Masks & Purifiers See A 66x Jump In Sales On Lazada; We’re Just Glad People Are Buying The Right Mask

With the haze setting up shop over Malaysia, AQI levels in the country have been soaring, with places such as Ampang clocking in hazardous readings as high is 314. As such, Malaysians nationwide are doing everything they can to minimize the harmful effects of the haze.

Recognizing that safety should not be a commodity and that prices should not be hiked up just because demand is high, Lazada came up with their Keep The Haze Away sale and it was a huge hit. In fact, over 36,000 face masks were sold in under 48 hours last Sunday and Monday during the sale.

Face masks were also selling 18x more than usual at the average discount of up to 56% off normal prices. Air purifier sales also went up by 10x compared to a normal day, with participating brands and sellers bringing down average prices by 20% from the recommended retail price.

The Keep The Haze Away Sale is an effort by Lazada to bring down prices of masks and other air-quality control products, at a time where demand and prices are soaring.

We worked with our supportive brands and sellers to prepare the best deals for our shoppers as safety should not be a commodity, and prices should not be hiked up just because demand is high,”

When we first heard news of this, we were a little worried that people are buying surgical masks to combat the haze. While surgical masks are the cheaper option, the use of a surgical mask will not prevent one from inhaling small airborne particles.

We reached out to Lazada for clarification and thankfully, it was the N95 mask that was being sold like hot cakes.
