Nintendo says Mario Kart 8 Deluxe made for Nintendo Switch is the fastest selling game of the Mario Kart series.
Launched on 28 April, Nintendo recorded over 459,000 combined packaged and digital sales in the U.S. on launch day. Previous record of highest first day sale was held by Mario Kart Wii, with sales noted at 433,900 when it launched in 2008.
According to the numbers, the games was attached to 45% of Nintendo Switch sales – in other words, nearly half of Nintendo Switch owners in US has Mario Kart 8 Deluxe since day one. Over 2.7 million Switch has been sold worldwide.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe currently holds a Metacritic score of 93, claimed to be the highest-rated game in the series in 15 years – tying the overall review score of Mario Kart: Super Circuit for Game Boy Advance.
