One of the worst things about the MCO (& CMCO) has been the fact that barber shops and hair salons have had to halt operations. I mean, fair enough.. Safety should always come first but also i’ve had to wear a cap every day since the CMCO started and I only have one cap.. so.. yeah.

Anyway, I guess 3 months without being able to get your hair cut is enough to get on anyones nerves. According to the Senior Minister for Security (and Minister of Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, barber shops, hairdressing salons and beauty parlours can resume operations on June 10.

That’s right, in four days we can all stop looking like wannabe Tarzan! According to Yaakob, the sector’s contribution to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was RM13.5 billion a year, which is apparently enough to warrant the reopening of the sector being a high priority.

It’s worth noting that while the sector will be allowed to reopen on June 10th, there are certain restrictions as to what activities will be allowed. During his daily briefing today, Yaakob said that only things such as basic hair cutting and washing, shaving moustache and beard, hair treatment, manicure and pedicure as well as cleaning and facials will be allowed.

This means that for those of you who can’t bare the sight of your roots starting to show, you’re going to have to dye your hair yourself for the time being.

The Senior Minister also added that open markets, morning markets, night markets and bazaars will be allowed resume operations on June 15 given that they follow stringent standard operation procedure to prevent Covid-19 transmission.
