Two Members of Parliament names that you would never see together supporting a similar cause, Lim Guan Eng former Finance Minister and Opposition leader is united with Datuk Seri Najib Razak MP for Pekan and former Prime Minister, on the issue pertaining to the loan Moratorium.
As most Malaysian would soon come to realise that the Moratorium extended by the Government during the MCO lockdown will be expiring in September, which is just 2 months away. This means all those loans which was on hold since April for housing, car to business will now have to be serviced, the impact of repaying for those in trouble due to paycuts or loss of jobs could be overwhelming. In view of this predicament, there has been calls from the public and certain NGO’s for the Moratorium to be extended for another 6 months. However the calls has not been laud enough and yet to fall on the Prime Ministers ears, there is no official Government statement on the matter except from Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul commenting as a personal opinion that the Moratorium should be re-looked to assist those in dire situation.
Among those voicing over the concerns of loaners facing difficult time and needing more time to readjust this tough climate, is the surprise duo of Lim Guan Eng and Najib Razak, arch nemesis on all policies during their active Government roles but together on this matter have asked the PN Government to extend the Moratorium. LGE has said that the extension should be given to ease the peoples burden and business owners who cant estimate the extend of the impact until end of the year. Meanwhile, Najib a populist who has always been known to give hand-outs to the public has also encouraged for the Moratorium to be kept for another 6 months. Be it a political motive, but this is really needed at this time.
Banks have stated to assist those who really need the help and promised to sit down with borrowers, but who are we kidding the institutions are notorious for their credit assessment leaving many unavailable to get loans in the past. Why do you think illegal loan sharks thrive in the country?
If both parties from the opposite faction can come together for the people, the PN Government should take note and address the issue ASAP!
