As the MCO is currently implemented again, families are having no choice but to have a muzzled Chinese New Year. Malaysians are adapting to the new normal and the fact that celebrations will be different.

Angpows or red packets have been very closely related with the Chinese culture. Hence, to breathe life into this year’s Chinese New Year, Touch ‘n Go eWallet is bringing back its e-Angpow feature for the second year, providing users a convenient way of transferring money to family members, friends and loved ones wherever they are.

This modern-day gift grants people an accessible solution to keep with tradition while overcoming the limitations of travel. Users can transfer the desired amount to any friend and family throughout the country anytime without any added fee.

Just open the eWallet, tap on transfer, select a recipient, enter the amount, type a greeting (which can be in English, Malay or Chinese) and hit the confirm the key to transfer. It can be sent from now to February 27.

As the festival lasts up to 15 days, you can continue shopping for groceries, clothes, decor items, food and gifts through eWallet. The Touch’n Go eWallet users get to embark on The Goal Hunter CNY edition as more purchases are made online, which brings users to the Fatt Choy Angpow, a festive variant of the cashback coupon from Touch’n Go eWallet.

It offers a wider reward range which up to RM288 and available throughout the month. With two stamps (a stamp costs a transaction of RM10 minimum), users can select a reward of their choice from over 20 vouchers.

A user can claim up to five cashback vouchers monthly which grants them five tries at the Fatt Choy Angpow’s largest denomination. Users can also order groceries or food and get them delivered by Touch ‘n Go eWallet’s food delivery partners namely EASI, Runningman, The Lorry, Riding Pink, MULA Eats, and BungkusIT which award free yee sang to the lucky users as well as a chance to win a lucky draw (valued at up to RM888).

“Chinese New Year is a representation of the Malaysian culture. Though it is often associated with visits and gatherings with family members, it is different this time, but it does not mean Malaysians should disconnect from each other.

Instead, switching to a digital platform such as Touch ‘n Go eWallet, serves a similar purpose of connecting and re-connecting with loved ones in a #lebihsafe, #banyaktradition and #ekstraconvenient way,” said Ignatius Ong, Chief Executive Officer, TNG Digital.
