Kaspersky Lab’s Global Transparency Initiative indicates its commitment to assure the integrity and trustworthiness of its products. Part of this commitment also involves a huge move of Kaspersky Lab core operations from Russia to Switzerland. This comes amidst suspicions of meddling from the Russian government.
Relocation of customer data storage and processing
By the end of 2019, Kaspersky Lab will add a data center in Zurich. The facility will store and process all information for users in Europe, North America, Singapore, Australia, Japan and South Korea, with more countries to follow. Kaspersky Labs only assimilates voluntarily-shared data. It also uses the Kaspersky Security Network (KSN), an advanced cloud system that automatically processes cyberthreat-related data.
Relocation of software assembly
Kaspersky Lab’s ‘software build conveyer’ also relocates to Zurich. Before the end of 2018, all Kaspersky Lab products and services will be signed with a Switzerland digital signature before being distributed to customers worldwide. The relocation ensures that an independent organisation verifies all newly assembled software.
Establishment of the first Transparency Center
A dedicated Transparency Centre in Switzerland allows stakeholders to review the source code of Kaspersky products and updates. Kaspersky Labs expects to open the centre this year.
Independent supervision and review
An independent and qualified third party will supervise the data storage processing, software assembly, and source code of Kaspersky products. Kaspersky understands that transparency and trust are becoming universal requirements and will support non-profit groups to take on this responsibility.
