Jeff Bezos Donates Less Than 5 Mins Of His Income To Australian Bush Fire Efforts; Makes Twitter Angry

Let’s all take a moment to give a round of applause to Mr Jeff Bezos. The Amazon CEO and worlds richest man has recently announced that his company will donate a total of $1 million Australian Dollars to aid in Australia’s bushfire relief efforts.

1 million Australian dollars amounts to about US$690,000 and normally, that would be a lot of money. The thing is though, Jeff Bezos is no normal dude. This is the guy that made his ex wife the third wealthiest woman in the world just by getting divorced. You see, context is key in this situation (and in most situations, really) and the problem here is that the total amount that the Amazon CEO donated amounts to less than what he makes in 5 minutes. Yup, it’s 2020 and you can donate 690,000 U.S Dollars and still be labelled a shrewd.

Unfortunately for Jeff Bezos, Amazon is worth a total of $938.1 billion dollars, and that’s not Australian dollars, but Trump dollars, so it’s kind of hard to side with him on this one. The bald billionaire took to Instagram to announce the donation along with message that I’d imagine could only have come from the heart.

“Our hearts go out to all Australians as they cope with these devastating bushfires. Amazon is donating 1 million AU dollars in needed provisions and services. Find more about it and learn how customers can help as well. Link in bio.”

At this point, it would’ve been better if he had just silently made the donation. I mean, come on.. What did he think the reaction to him donating 5 minutes of his salary would be? Needless to say, Twitter was livid..

You get the picture. On the one hand, I guess it’s better than nothing but on the other hand the dude does sound like a big hypocrite. This is the same person who asked people to give him ideas for new philanthropic ventures on Twitter almost 3 years ago.

What do you guys think? Is the donation better than nothing or is he the human equivalent of Scrooge McDuck?
