Known for cloning other social media platform’s services onto their own, Facebook recently launched Lasso, an app that allows users to create short videos and overlay them with music. The app shares very similar traits to Tik Tok, minus the augmented reality effects and filters you would find on Tik Tok.

On Lasso, users can  record themselves dancing and lip-syncing to music, very much like what apps such as Vine and Musical.y had allowed users to perform.

“Lasso is a new standalone app for short-form, entertaining videos — from comedy to beauty to fitness and more. We’re excited about the potential here, and we’ll be gathering feedback from people and creators.” , reported The Verge

Furthermore, users can watch an endless stream of video clips, follow other creators, and discover new content under popular hashtags.

Fans of lipsynching videos will have lots to work with as Facebook gives users access to their extensive music library, allowing them to pair their videos with millions of licensed songs. Videos can also be shared onto Facebook’s stories feature and eventually on Instagram as well.

The app is seen as a way to gain back the users Facebook has been gradually losing over recent years as users of Lasso can log in through their Facebook or Instagram account. The only concern the app has been stirring up is that all content and profiles on Lasso are public, which could cause some concern about older users having access to videos of dancing teens.
