The iPhone X is Near

Just days after the launch of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, Apple Malaysia now focuses its sights on the iPhone X with a Friday, 24 November 2017 release date. While the pricing is nothing new, I would like to reiterate that the 64GB model of the iPhone X stands at RM5,149 while the 256GB is at RM5,899.

Just to refresh your memory, the iPhone X will be the first iPhone to carry a full-screen Super Retina OLED display at 5.8-inches. It will also be the first iPhone with a dual camera setup as well as supporting wireless charging (better late than never I suppose.)

To give you a comparison of sorts, the Samsung Galaxy Note8 is retailing at RM3,999; the Huawei Mate 10 Pro will be selling at RM3,099; and the Google Pixel 2 starts off at RM3,999.

Whether or not the iPhone X is worth its weight in gold, it’s anybody’s guess at this point. It boggles the mind on how one can justify paying an exorbitant amount for a smartphone when there will probably be another iteration next year from Apple (just saying.)

Yet, here I sit in shoes that cost RM1,000 and above on the resale market and how do I justify that? Beats me…

In the end, what people say shouldn’t really matter anymore. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and just because you have to hear it, doesn’t mean you have to accept it. If you can afford shelling out close to RM6,000 for the iPhone X, go for it.
