IPC Shopping Centre Comes Up with the First-of-its-Kind App

Are you one of the many Malaysians who are constantly stuck with the dilemma on what to eat? With that said, IPC Shopping Centre is here to help with its new smartphone app, making it the first shopping centre in the world to do so. The app is made in collaboration with music streaming service, Spotify.

Named “Mood Menu”, the IPC Shopping Centre app provides users with suggestions on places to wine and dine through its mood-matching tool, which utilises Spotify’s rich user data. IPC Shopping Centre also worked with Professor Robin Dando of Cornell University, a world-renowned taste psychologist to come up with the Mood Menu.

This food-and-mood matching tool focuses on a complex proprietary algorithm of human emotions and its effect on our sense of taste. Depending on your mood, the app is able to detect on what type of flavours suits your mood. How the app works with Spotify is by checking through your recent playback history to detect your current mood.

The app will then match your current mood with suitable flavours offered at IPC Shopping Centre, via the Mood Menu.

Andrew Yeoh, Head of Marketing – Shopping Centre, IKEA Southeast Asia said,

“We saw this as an opportunity to solve every Malaysian’s favourite question—“What to eat?”. It is a common question we ask our friends, family, and colleagues almost every day. We hope that this solution provides our shoppers with a more pleasant and delightful shopping and dining experience. After all, it is part of our vision to create a better everyday life for our shoppers and visitors.”

Aside from assisting you in deciding on what to eat, the app also offers plenty of other features including a Store Guide, parking bay information, the latest shopping centre promotions as well as members-only promotions who sign up for a profile via the app.

The IPC Shopping Centre mobile app is now available on both the Google Play Store as well as the Apple App Store.
