CA Technologies releases its top technology prediction for 2018. CA Technologies Vice President, ASEAN and Greater China, Nick Lim shares that organisations must put software at the core of the business in order to thrive in the digital economy. Lim emphasises that enterprises can increase their success by focusing on DevSecOps, Software as a Service (SaaS) and mainframe innovations.
Top three technology trends that CA Technologies predicts for 2018 includes:
- DevSecOps is Gaining Traction
Digital security was the hot topic last year with several high profile attacks put in the spotlight. With that, DevSecOps will become mainstream and security technologies designed for developers will dominate the market. Security must be part of the development process from the beginning, making it part of the entire DevOps lifecycle. As this results in more resilient software, the solutions will be more resistant to hacker attacks.
- Cloud Is Growing
This isn’t new, but in ASEAN the uptake has been considerably slow, with faster adoption in recent years. Wikibon is estimating that enterprise cloud spend will grow at a CAGR of 19% over the next 10 years. A much larger growth will be foreseen as established enterprises move to a more agile infrastructure to support a nimble, software-centric services business model. It is all about SaaS in 2018 for some of the largest players, with a bigger cloud spend.
- Mainframe Continues To Be Mission Essential For Digital Business Innovation
Mainframe isn’t dead. For companies built on mainframe, it remains critical for operations along with the advent of mobile, API enablement and containerised applications. The mainframe was a platform that supports transaction revenue, and now a source of revenue growth and innovation, delivering new mission essential services through Lean and Agile. The growth of AI and machine learning transforms the mainframe from a system of records into a hub for systems of intelligence and intelligent automation in the enterprise. The traditionally trusted attributes such as speed, security and high availability and new capabilities of the connected mainframe will cement the mainframe’s position as a mission essential ingredient for business innovation in the digital economy.

Nick Lim, Vice President, ASEAN and Greater ChinaBuilding a Modern Software Factory
To keep up with market demands, CA Technologies observes four principles that drives a Modern Software Factory, a framework for customers to embark on their digital transformation. The Modern Software Factory blueprint gives every organisation the ability to create an agile business, build better apps faster, make security a competitive advantage and maximise application performance.
- Agility
Data insights become integrated into an increasingly granular and fast-paced process for creating new value. This will all be driven by sophisticated insight-generating engines tied to real-time business and financial metrics.
- Automation
Businesses will need to standar
dise and integrate workflows smoothly across the DevOps process and tool chain. Analytics will help find bottlenecks or weak spots in their automated software flows. The future of automation is intelligence – it learns, adapts, and self-optimises the entire system.
- Experience insights
Experience insights leverage company data and apply advanced analytics to give businesses the knowledge to continually improve how customers are experiencing their goods and services. These insights can be used to react, respond, and make every customer experience better.
- End-to-end security
Security is becoming synonymous with “trust”. Businesses will have to secure the entire value chain of their companies including data as well as their brands. The ability to reduce threat vectors by both enhancing the intelligence of identity and driving more sophisticated analytics will improve, but so will hackers’ ability as machine learning and AI become part of the security threat landscape. AI will pose new threats that the enterprise will have to cope with, and fighting AI with AI will become a necessity.
“The Modern Software Factory is one of the most important enablers of businesses. It is a way to sense, adapt, and respond to a rapidly changing world. Agile organisations are driven by software and they are customer-centric. They optimise the customer journey from product design through the entire customer experience lifecycle. The Modern Software Factory is able to ensure organisations to be built to change and can adapt to an accelerating digital world, which is a prerequisite for staying competitive in today’s digital economy,” said Lim.
