The brains behind the original Defense of the Ancients (DotA) custom map and Dota 2, IceFrog has spoken out about the game’s big patch releases and how he plans to change that. For those who are new, he is the lead developer for Valve’s Dota 2 as well as being the original developer for DotA. The key attribute about IceFrog is his anonymity, choosing to not reveal his true identity to this day, sticking to his pseudonym, IceFrog.
With ESL One Genting 2018 coming to an end, many Dota 2 fans are expecting the next big update to come with the last big update coming on 30 October titled 7.07 Update – Dueling Fates. Not one to actually tweet a lot (he has a total of nine tweets), this is what IceFrog had to say regarding the current Dota 2 patch releases.
To make it easier to keep track of changes, we’ll also be releasing a new in-game feature to notify you of any recent changes to heroes in your match.

To summarise on what the enigmatic developer is talking about, he touches on taking a different approach when it comes to releasing patch updates for Dota 2. While big patch updates comes around every few months with smaller updates to follow, IceFrog will now be focusing on releasing smaller patch updates, which will be released on a Thursday every fortnight.
This will last for about six months, and will then be reevaluated on how the community has taken to the change. With this change, the in-game client will also be getting an update through a feature that will notify you on the recent changes a specific hero has gone through in your game.
What are your thoughts on IceFrog changing the way the system works? Do you agree with it or do you think this will be good for the Dota 2 community as a whole? Let us know in the comment section below.
