Huawei, known for the phones and products, are in the news again. Huawei’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Meng Wanzhou and daughter of the company’s founder is facing extradition charges in Canada. She was picked up by Canadian authorities in Vancouver for allegations of breaching US sanctions against Iran. With the rising tensions, something to come out of this was what she had with her when she was picked up. According to an article by Bloomberg Canadian police found an iPhone 7 Plus, Macbook Air and an Airpad Pro in her possession. But at least she had a Huawei P20 Porsche design with her.
Inherently, this doesn’t seem to be a big deal. People have preferences in terms of OS, and maybe she just genuinely doesn’t like Android or Windows. There could be multiple reasons why she was using all these Apple products. But something to consider, Huawei has before docked their employees pay for using an iPhone.
On New Years 2019, Huawei decided to send out a Happy New Years message to all their fans. But something interesting happened. The tweet seems to have come out from an iPhone. Twitter displays which device you send a tweet from, and this time, Huawei used an iPhone. Two employees at Huawei had their pay docked 5000 Yuan (RM3000), which is a hefty fine to pay for a mistake.
With things like that out there, you start to wonder if there really is an issue with using other companies devices. But one thing’s for certain, Huawei’s CFO doesn’t seem like she’ll be in trouble for it. Everyone has preferences, but when it comes to representing your company. Maybe keep it in mind and be proud of the products you make.
