HP Reveals 2 New VR Headsets Weighing Below 500 grams

Every year at the HP Reinvent event, the company reveals the latest range of products that sets the tone for the year. The annual event sees the tech giant showcase a slew of devices including new laptops running on the latest microprocessors, printers, and the usual items you will expect however this year there was a surprise when HP revealed 2 new VR headsets, the Reverb Professional Edition and a consumer version.

With an estimated weight of just 1.1 pounds or just below 500 grams, the virtual reality headsets will be the offering users high image quality due to its panels measuring 2160 x 2160 per eye and a 114-degree field of view. The units come with integrated Bluetooth, pre-paired motion controllers and supports Windows Mixed Reality and Steam VR.

“With more than 2,500 VR experiences available and counting, Windows Mixed Reality continues to serve as the home for cutting-edge innovations that are fundamentally changing the way we work and play,” says Alex Kipman, a technical fellow with Microsoft.

VR has yet to explode into consumer mindset like how smartphones have but the usage depends heavily on the contents that are available. Verticals like medical, industrial, architecture and education are finding viable application for the solution. HP has been active in these sector and will be looking to take advantage by up-selling the Reverb to existing customers.

The HP Reverb Professional and Consumer Editions are expected to be available in late April for $649 and $599 or approximately RM2700 and RM2500.
