‘Ambitious’ is one word to describe Amazon. Their latest project is to build a new air cargo hub in Kentucky. Why? Because the company is confident that it will need a place to put their expanding fleet of cargo planes. Last year, Amazon entered into agreements with two carriers to lease 40 dedicated cargo airplanes. Today, Amazon says 16 of those planes are in-service with more planes rolling out over time.

The hub will cost around US$1.5 billion and will be responsible for creating 2000 new jobs. It’ll be responsible for shipping parcels across USA through Amazon’s very popular Prime service. This clearly signals that Amazon is looking to abandon existing carriers in favour of their own. It would certainly be beneficial to them and their customers as the streamlining of services would bring costs down which can then be passed on to the consumers.
