GrabBike Pilots Begin In Malaysia With A Focus On Motorcycle Safety

Grab has now started their 6-month pilot for their on demand motorcycle service, GrabBike in Klang Valley. Of course this comes after being hotly debated about it’s safety to passengers, and therefore Grab’s making the effort to focus on safety.

The bike-hailing pilot has been available for trial since the 3rd of January 2020 in select areas in Klang Valley. The objective of GrabBike’s pilot as of now is to evaluate the feasibility and cultural fit of bike-hailing locally.

“We are honoured to be a part of the bike-hailing pilot overseen by the Ministry of Transport. Today, GrabBike is the largest bike-hailing service across Southeast Asia. With the help of our regional experts, we will apply rigorous standards and learnings from across the region to enhance the service in our country,” said Sean Goh, Country Head of Grab Malaysia.

Bringing Safety To The People

The GrabBike is available within Klang Valley and is available for travel within a 10km radius from the passengers location. But if you were still worried about the safety aspects of bike-hailing, Grab is only allowing qualified driver-partners who have completed driver safety training as well as a practical riding assessment.

“Safety continues to be Grab’s main priority. Not only are GrabBike drivers required to attend driver safety training and practical assessment, all GrabBike motorcycles are equipped with helmets for driver-partners and passengers, as well as reflective jackets for drivers. As with all Grab rides, both drivers and passengers are covered by personal accident insurance,” added Goh.

However, to protect safety of drivers and passengers, cash bookings for all GrabBike rides after 9PM-2AM will be disabled. So keep that in mind if you were planning to try out GrabBike.
