Google’s Smart Compose Is Coming To Google Docs; Let Your Essay Write Itself! Well, Almost By Itself..

At Google’s Cloud Next event in London, Google Cloud CEO, Thomas Kurian announced that Smart Compose is coming to Google Docs soon. If you didn’t know what Smart Compose is, it’s an AI-powered feature that trie to complete the phrase or sentence you’re typing in Gmail. So it’s something like the AI understanding what is in the email you’ve received, then gives you a bunch of options to reply with, as well as when you’re replying to an email, it’ll predict what you’re trying to say. I’ve used it and most times it’s fairly accurate, and it does make my life ever so easier.

For now you can sign up for the beta, but keep in mind it’s only available in English for the moment.

If you’re wondering “hey, will I really need this? I’m smarter than an AI so I can type faster”. Well, Google has got some stats for you. Google claim that Smart Compose in Gmail has saved people from typing almost 2 billion characters per week. It gets smarter the more you use it, and type emails, so it’s pretty useful. Not sure how well it’ll adapt to Google Docs and longer documents, but theoretically, it should be fine.
