One of the most explored tropes of historical games, or even more modern ones such as The Last of Us Part II, use horses. It’s just one of those things which are highly expected in games set in environments like Ghost of Tsushima, PlayStation’s upcoming PS4 exclusive. Ghost of Tsushima will heavily feature horseback riding as a way to get around the map, and now they’ve confirmed the horse cannot die.
Which is very welcome news.
In an interview with USGamer, Jason Connell, Sucker Punch creative director said:
“Your horse is not gonna die,”
“Your horse will get scared and run away. You may not be able to bring them back for a brief, brief moment, but nobody’s gonna in combat, in gameplay, kill your horse.”
Based on what Connell mentions, animals have a significant role in the game as they help your character find shrines. From the looks of it, you can’t kill or hunt animals of any kind, which is in tune with the character’s ideals and philosophy.
“It kind of goes in theme with a lot of the other stuff we’re doing with nature. Our actor has a nice, sweet sensibility to him. He cares about animals and people, and it comes through in his performance,” Connell added.
I for one, am glad that Ghost of Tsushima is following in the footsteps of The Witcher 3 and Assassin’s Creed games by making your horse invincible. Nothing worse than leaving your horse right outside an enemy encounter, and inadvertently killing your beloved horse. Happened WAAAY too many times in Red Dead Redemption II and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Ghost of Tsushima is expected to release on July 17 for the PS4, so stay tuned to hear the latest news about PlayStation’s latest exclusive!
