Currently on the security force approved by the National Security Council can operate these unmanned aerial vehicles, which are being used to conduct various surveillance in city centres and hotspots. Malaysian authority are using these drones to check on peoples movement, monitor situation at Enhanced MCO zones and in keeping watch over detention camps. Security Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob reminded drone owners to get permission from CAAM before taking their devices for a spin.
Be it commercial use of drones for site inspection or for fun activity like aerial photography, the usage of these machines are now under the purview of CAAM and have been mandated as mini-aircraft’s that require security clearance.
