Singapore based Garena now changed to SEA Limited has filed a registration statement with the US Securities and Exhange Commision for a proposed US$1 billion (RM4.2 bln) initial public offering.

Operating in Southeast Asia on various internet related services and business which includes key markets of Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore, which collectively had 585.3 million people and US$3.0 trillion of GDP in 2016 is the target growth area. The company which has our very own local state sovereign house Khazanah as its share holder (invested US$170 million early 2016) operates three platforms across Digital Entertainment, E-Commerce, and Digital Financial Services.

Malaysians will be familiar with Garena now SEA as the exclusive operator of League of Legends, FIFA Online 3, Point Blank, Blade & Soul and Arena of Valor. Numerous events in the country has been seen supported by the operator which has a representative office here. However, as of late the company has been pushing the eCommerce platform Shopee, aggressively as mobile first service, providing both buyers and sellers with an easy, secure and fast online shopping experience through strong payment and logistical support. Shopee has a wide selection of product categories ranging from consumer electronics to home & living, health & beauty, baby & toys, fashion and fitness equipment.

The company was founded by Forrest Li who was inspired by Steve Jobs commencement address in Stanford where he was student then, formed in 2009 SEA Limited now operates in 7 countries with 5000 employees.
