Launching an all digital TV service, MYTV will be taking over from RTM in broadcasting free to view channels over the new platform. The operator was appointed by the government to digitise the analogue format the current stations are being broadcast to what most countries are already moving towards.

Managed by Altel Communications, the operator will start with 9 free-to-air channels like TV1, TV2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV, TVi, TV Hijrah, TV9 and Bernama News Channel and has assured of more stations coming on board like video on demand and shopping. Initiating the adoption, MYTV has committed to hand out 2 million decoders (priced at RM199) away with the government topping another 2.2 million with a total of 4.2 million to be handed out to Malaysians for free.

With MYTV decoder users can receive digital broadcasting signals to myFreeview channels and services. Additionally, a UHF aerial and a HDMI or AV cable will also be required, however if for TV display’s that has Integrated Digital Television (IDTV) and comes with a built-in digital tuner,  users can receive digital signals directly without a decoder.

Unlike Astro Njoi and HyppTV, the new service is free with no fees but consumers can expect charges for VOD or specialty channels.
