In order to avoid being apprehended or sent to medical facilities to be tested for Covid-19, foreigners in Malaysia have come with clever way to thwart authorities by showing fake test documents.
After a tip-off, Police managed to arrest two Bangaldeshi suspects who were producing and selling fake Covid-19 test papers to fellow foreigner workers here in Kuala Lumpur. With their base situated in Jalan Alor, a common place where many foreign workers are spotted, the men were caught after 2 weeks in operation selling the documents for RM50 each.
The men were operating from a rented store with equipment’s consisting of a laptop, printer and a lamination machine. Police suspect that they were employed with a mastermind could be involved behind this racket. This is seen as a serious crime involving not only criminal but also the lives of many people if these fake certificates should be used by an infected person and spread the virus in the community.
Migrant colony in the country is currently the biggest portion with Covid-19, the number is rising as more illegal migrants are detected and ported to detention camps. Virus spreads in these tight places are rampant and alarming. News of uncontrolled spreads and the frequent rough treatment of migrants could be the reason behind the racket, with these test papers they could walk free without further questioning by officers.
Public is warned of these fake documents circulating, firms employing migrants should verify documents if they are produced and call on the authority if they suspect any foul play.
