After one disappointing result after another, Fnatic has decided to change things up with its roster, taking in acclaimed mid-laner Abed “Abed” Yusop to replace Steve “Xcalibur” Ye. Abed was formerly of Digital Chaos, who has since acquired the services of Maximilian “qojqva” Bröcker. This will see Xcalibur moving to the substitute bench but how big of a role he will play in the team, only time will tell.
Another surprising removal from the Fnatic team would be Ahmad “ADTR” Syazwan, who has been relieved of his duties as the coach. He will be replaced by none other than Adam Erwann Shah “343” bin Akhtar Hussein, formerly of Fire Dragoon E-sports. This could be an instrumental move as he has played with both Khoo “Ohaiyo” Chong Xin and Djardel “DJ” Mampusti in the past.
For those of you have forgotten, 343 was part of Fnatic’s 2016 line-up that saw them get fourth place at TI6.
Fnatic’s upcoming match would be against Entity Gaming in the SEA Qualifiers for The Summit 8. This should be an interesting game for Malaysian fans as we finally get a formidable mid player for Fnatic. That’s not an insult towards Xcalibur as he is extremely talented but Abed appears to be on another level. It’s also worth pointing out that Abed was the first player to hit the 10,000 solo MMR milestone.
Only time will tell on how well Fnatic can perform with this new roster. On paper, Fnatic should be able to give Mineski a good run for their money as Abed is a formidable player who knows the SEA Dota 2 scene very well.
