The world’s first USB 3.2 demonstration shows that the newest iteration of the USB managing 20Gb/s. That’s very impressive seeing as current USB 3.1 technology only manages 10Gb/s. Furthermore, this comes almost a year after the USB-IF first published specifications for the USB 3.2.
It has two 10Gb/s channels together bonded together. This allows it to achieve up to 20Gb/s of throughput. The USB 3.2’s 20Gb/s however is still only half the throughput of the Thunderbolt 3. Thunderbolt remains the USB’s strongest competitor.
Synopsys are the people behind the world’s first USB 3.2 demonstration. You can watch their full demonstration below:
There probably will not be any devices using USB 3.2 until at least mid 2019. Devices that do use the USB 3.2 will be expected to continue using USB Type-C cables. In the video, Synopsys uses a Belkin USB 3.1 Type-C cables that are available everywhere as well as anywhere these days.
USB 3.2’s increased bandwidth enhances existing technologies, however, you’ll need new hardware. Monitors and storage products will probably use USB 3.2 first, before professional and consumer devices after that.
