First Impressions : Realme 2 Pro

With just hours ahead of the launch of Realme 2 phones, we managed to get an early hand on the top of the line Realme 2 Pro. In case you’re wondering, the Realme brand is Oppo’s sub-brand which focuses on a mid-low budget range of smartphones. Without further ado, let’s go ahead and find out more about the phone.

The Realme 2 Pro unit we received is an imported unit from Indonesia. Right out of the box, we are greeted by the phone itself. There’s a silicone transparent case which can be found in the box with a wall charger and a microUSB to regular Type A USB cable. No headphones come with the box.

It sports a reflective mirror black finish on the back with a dual camera setup and a fingerprint scanner. The dual camera setup is a 16MP primary camera and 2MP secondary camera responsible for the depth effect. Although the back isn’t made of glass but Realme did a good job to mimic the glass feel on the plastic back. We didn’t get the diamond cut finish on this unit but we can already tell that regardless of the colour you choose, it is definitely going to attract a lot of fingerprints and dusts. To prevent smudges and dusts sticking on the back, you may very well make use of the silicone case which comes with the phone.

At the bottom of the phone, there’s a microUSB port for charging and data transfers, a speaker grill, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a pinhole size microphone. The top of the phone is pretty clean with the secondary microphone. The power button can be found on the right and the volume rockers on the left of the phone. Just above the volume rockers is where you can find the dual sim card tray which also houses the MicroSD card slot. As most dual sim phones, the storage card takes up the secondary sim slot not allowing the second slim to be used.

The 6.3-inch 1080p resolution display has a waterdrop style notch with no physical or capacitive buttons. The front camera is a 16MP selfie shooter which you may think it should have an outstanding performance, but I can tell that’s not true for cameras with bigger sensors. It all boils down to how the camera is tuned and the software itself. It does have face unlock and it performs pretty decent. It isn’t the fastest but also not the slowest. Succession rate is pretty high throughout my use. So, does it perform well as it is intended to be then? I would say yes without a doubt.

To my surprise, it has a storage size of 128GB paired to 8GB of RAM! That’s pretty insane when you think about it. I still remember my Samsung Galaxy S3 in 2012 had only 2GB of RAM. It’s amazing how far technology has developed to fit 8GB of RAM in a smartphone. However, it has the Snapdragon 660 processor (not a high-end processor for a phone with 8GB of RAM).

I believe there’s more than what meets the eye from the Realme 2 Pro. A full camera test as well as battery and the phone’s performance will be put to test to give you a full in-depth review. Stay tuned for the in-depth review of the phone.
