Drones were a hot topic of discussion when they first arrived for commercial users. People were worried about their privacy, as well as safety because of these drones. But everyone always wants to see the bad side of things, before the potential good. The first ever drone delivery of an organ has taken place, and the organ remained undamaged and intact. The drone delivered the kidney to a 44 year old woman who spent 8 years on dialysis. It took the drone 10 minutes to travel 2.6 miles (4.2 km) and transport the organ from one hospital to the other. It took 3 years of research to actually make the delivery possible, as something like this would need preparation before hand. The drone’s flight path, and execution would have to take into account not damaging the organ, as well as making sure the temperature stayed right.

This could solve problems of being stuck in traffic, or a helicopter would be too costly. A drone is a simple solution. This however, is more indicative of what delivery systems could turn into. Couriers and packages can be dropped off via drones, as well as other things. But something to take into account, with the advent of 5G, drone deliveries could be taken to a whole new level. At the moment, drones have to be piloted, including this one. But with the low latency of 5G, theoretically they’d be able to input coordinates and it would fly over longer distances or be autonomous.

We’re probably headed to a future of drones flying over our head, delivering pizzas and what not. And not gonna lie, that sounds pretty cool to me. But is air traffic a thing? Like, are there going to be traffic lights in the sky for drones?
