Fear Of God & Converse Team Up Again On The Chuck 70; Here’s Why It’s A Must Have On Your Rotation

Jerry Lorenzo has done it again and for the second time, on the timeless silhouette of the Converse Chuck 70 Hi. Fear of God Essentials second collaboration with Converse see’s the brand do an inverse take on the egret/black colourway both companies dropped together two years ago.

Sometimes, the best collaborations are the ones that are effortless and subtle, and this new colourway is exactly that. The way it blends the classic sport spirit of the Converse Chuck 70 and the high fashion elegance and natural tones that Fear of God has become known for is just perfect.

The utilization of colorblocking takes us back to 2016 when Jerry Lorenzo dropped the FOG x Vans SK8-Hi collab. I remember wanting the black pair so freaking badly, and the tongue on this pair is a real throwback to that. What I really like about both the Vans drop and this is how they took a universally loved silhouette and made a world of difference to it but in the most subtle of manners. At first glance, these probably look like regular Chucks, but take a second look and you’ll see that they have a premium air about them.

Another example of this would be the Vans x Our Legacy collaboration from 2017. The whole focus here wasn’t to drastically change how the shoe looks or throw in a fancy colourway, but to take the classic black Vans Old Skool and give hit a premium look and feel. If you look closely at the sneaker, you’ll notice that these premium materials and tiny added details even give the shoe a nicer looking silhouette, and that really makes a world of difference.

The FOG essentials collab equips the Chuck Hi’s with black canvas for the lateral and medial panels while using a supple egret leather on the tongue and throat. It comes with extra long laces that’s meant to be wrapped around the collar of the sneaker but how many times have you done that only to see your laces ending up wrapped around your foot as you walk? These babies come with a pull tab on the heel that secures the laces in place.

The utilization of a cream colourway for the sole and the Fear of God Essentials branding on the heel represent the cherry on the proverbial cake here. The Fear of God Essentials x Converse Chuck 70 Hi “Black/Egret” will release at retailers on February 26 for $110 USD.
