Facebook To Unveil Voice Assistant

It’s been reported that Facebook is coming out with a voice assistant that is similar to Apple’s Siri, Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa. Facebook has been working on this since early 2018. The company’s augmented reality and virtual reality group is responsible for this initiative. A team in Redmond, Washington is building the new AI assistant and is led by Ira Snyder, director of AR/VR and Facebook Assistant. The new feature could potentially be used on Facebook’s Portal video chat smart speakers and the Oculus headsets.

Back in 2015, Facebook introduced an AI assistant for its Messenger app called M. The project failed as it relied on the help of humans instead of helping users with smart suggestions. In November Facebook started selling its Portal video chat device where users can say “Hey Portal” to initiative very simple commands.
