Spreading false news online gets a young man in trouble, when MCMC officers together with Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Unit raided a mans home and remanded the suspect for posting about a Minister online.
In the latest report published on the MCMC site, the individual had posted on his facebook page claiming that Deputy Prime Minister Dato Seri Dr. Zahid Hamidi had resigned from his position in the government, which is of course not true. Investigation by the officers found that the person managing the account who went by the name ‘Melayu Solo’ was traced to be from Cheras, Alam Damai.
Under Section 233(1)(a) Communication and Multimedia 1988, if found guilty the suspect can be fined RM50,000 or prison not more than 1 year or both. Certainly not worth it.
