Google Family Link Lets Parents Monitor Child Accounts

Google launched an app called Family Link, that allows parents to create and monitor Google accounts for their children.

The account will be completely controlled by the parents, and the app will allow parents to manage apps downloaded, as well as usage, such as screen time, device “bedtime”, or lock it remotely.

At the moment the app isn’t freely available yet – it’s for invite only and you have to request it. To start, you need to be a parent of kids under 13 years old, create a Google Account for your child through Family Link, have a Nougat device for your kid, have your own android device and Google account, and finally, it’s only available in the U.S.

Controls will only be available to parents until the child’s 13th birthday, in which they can switch that to a normal account.

While this app allows parents to take control, it doesn’t automatically block inappropriate content. Although, certain existing Google apps like Chrome and Search has filtering options in place.
