Facebook Now has its Own Version of Mudah.my Called ‘Marketplace’

Facebook has finally picked up on the fact that more than 450 million people visit buy and sell groups each month on their own website. So what have they done to capitalise on this? Launch their own feature that incorporates this of course.

It’s called Marketplace and you’ll find it on the bottom of the existing Facebook app as a little shop icon.

Just like on Mudah.my or Carousell, Markeplace is heavily photo-driven. At the top, you’ll find a search bar and there are options to let you filter results by location, category and price. The built-in location tool helps to look for items in your immediate vicinity, but you can select which city you’d like to browse manually.

Through Marketplace, you can contact your seller with a direct messenger, but Facebook takes no responsibility in the actual sale. That is decided between you and the seller. What Facebook does help you do is save items for later.

You can post items for sale on Marketplace by following these steps:

  1. Take a photo of your item, or add it from your camera roll
  2. Enter a product name, description and price
  3. Confirm your location and select a category
  4. Post

The feature is only available in four countries at this point: US, UK, Australia and New Zealand. That being said, the company is working on expansion into new locations and will bring it to the desktop eventually. Obviously, only those aged 18 and above may use this feature.
