Facebook has a policy that it states which prohibits hateful treatment of people based on characteristics such as race, ethnicity, or religion – and in this context the social network platform has now decided to ban support for white nationalism and white separatism on all its platform from next week.

The irony is, its only now the company discovered such conversations are taking place on Facebook and Instagram, this is after countless hate crimes, verbal abuses and late night torch hunts all propagated on the platform. It claimed that the policy was not originally applied  because they were thinking about broader concepts of nationalism and separatism — things like American pride and Basque separatism. Really? Do we have to believe that?

Now here’s how Facebook came to the conclusion that these groups are bad news:

” Over the past three months our conversations with members of civil society and academics who are experts in race relations around the world have confirmed that white nationalism and white separatism cannot be meaningfully separated from white supremacy and organized hate groups.”

Do they really had to consult people to know if these groups are haters and promote violence, don’t they have an African American working in their midst? Just as the brother he will give a history lesson about the civil movement and KKK!

Taking on a rehabilitation role, people who search for terms associated with white supremacy will be directed to pages that promotes not-to-hate. Which they will immediately realise and become the change agent for a new world.

Facebook tend to be reactive on all its efforts, for a technology company that uses deep learning and artificial intelligence its unfortunate it can’t detect simple key words or sentences. Just wonder when the tech giant will be ahead of its own game.
