Beginning today, the FAA will no longer allow Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices on planes. Passengers who bring them in may have them confiscated face fines. Those who place these phones in their checked baggage may be subject to criminal prosecution. Yikes.

This new ban comes as Samsung ceases production of the Note 7 and quits working on a fix to the problem of the devices exploding. Previously, you could still bring the Note 7 on the plane, so long as the device was turned off and not being charged. Now, the Note 7 is being looked at as a much more serious threat.

As of today, the Note 7 scandal is expected to cost Samsung more than US$5 billion.
