It’s D-Day for ESL One as the ESL One Genting 2018 Finals are now underway. Before diving into details, let’s look back at Day 2 and some of its nail-biting moments.
Day 2, the critical eve that locks in teams for ESL One Genting 2018 Finals, open its doors to anxious activity. Khoo ‘Ohaiyo‘ Chong Xin, formerly of Team Fnatic as of last week, became a last minute replacement for Team Secret. Adrian ‘Fata‘ Trinks fell ill the night before and passed on the baton to Ohaiyo.

That alone changes the team composition and strategy since no one anticipated this.
Alongside MidOne, Team Secret enters the semi-finals with two Malaysians in its line-up and quickly becomes the crowd favourite. Team Newbee held well and is determined from the get-go, sensing that the addition of Ohayo this late is in their favour. The first game proved as such as the underdog quickly shut-down the home team and took the game easily. Team Secret, and Ohayo especially, rallied back in Game Two.
However, with Sccc’s inspiring solo-carry play with Madusa, Team Newbee managed to turn back the tide and took the second game, cinching the match.

The other semi-final isn’t as exciting, unfortunately. It’s a straight forward battle between Team Evil Geniuses and The International reigning champion, Team Liquid. Under two hours, Team Liquid totally steam-rolled Team Evil Geniuses, raking up a 2-0 win. This ensures they booked a place in the finals tomorrow against Team Newbee.
Let’s hope it won’t be a quick finals this evening as many are hoping for a long-drawn out fight.
