Dump Your Phone In The Trash; LG Teases The Most Mind Blowing Display We’ve Ever Seen On A Phone

Imagine the conventional smartphone. Now imagine the coolest phone in the market now. Odds are, that’s a foldable right? Well, LG is straight up about to blow foldables right out of the park if their latest teaser video  is anything to go by.

At this point, we’re not even sure what to call it but we’re just going to go with Wing screen because it literally has a swivelling secondary screen that opens up from its vertical position into a horizontal one and dear Lord, we automatically want one. Of course, it doesn’t look like the most practical device but hey, with a device that cool, we don’t mind.

We should probably tone down our excitement seeing as this is just a teaser and the video doesn’t actually reveal much but with LG pencilling in the 14th of September for an official reveal, we won’t have to wait too long to see just how close to production the device is.

According to the press release sent out by LG, the new device will apparently be a part of what the company calls the Explorer Project. The whole point of the project is to inject much needed curiosity and excitement into the mobile sector and it “will focus solely on new usability that is discovered with innovative designs.”

Given how far out the concept seems in the teaser, you’d think that it’s merely a concept device, but rumour has it that the device is production ready and is slated to be released in the market sometime this year.

The elephant in the room here isn’t only the price but also the practicality of this new form factor. According to The Verge, possible use cases for this far out form factor include widescreen video in what would feel like one-handed portrait orientation and allowing for full-screen driving navigation with music controls off to the side.

Whatever it is, we welcome LGs attempts at adding some fresh air into the smartphone design scene. All phones more or less look the same these days and it can get rather frustrating. All that could change come the 14th of September! Stay tuned for updates.
