DJI Mavic 2 Pro And Mavic 2 Zoom Takes To The Sky

DJI, a name famous in the drone community, has just unveiled two new updates to the foldable Mavic family. The Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom joins DJI’s extensive family of consumer and enterprise drones. Both share similar aesthetics, with major difference being the camera modules attached.

As the modules are not interchangable, users need to choose the models according to their needs. For example, the Mavic 2 Pro is the first flying camera platform that features a 1-inch sensor behind Hasselblad co-engineered glass. It is the same sensor size as the Sony RX100 series, so expect high fidelity images with impressive dynamic range for either video or images. Using Hasselblad’s unique Hasselblad Natural Color Solution (HNCS) technology for better accuracy, you can also adjust the aperture from f/2.8 to f/11 for better light control across any situation.

Meanwhile, the Mavic 2 Zoom features a 2x optical zoom in front of the /2.3-inch sensor, with a 24-48mm zoom lens in 35mm equivalent. Add two times digital zoom, you will get a lens that can do lossless zoom from 24-96mm, delivering a new way of drone photography and video capture. There is also the Super Resolution mode where nine shots taken with the telephoto lens are stitched together to create a high-resolution 48MP image. The optical zoom also gives the Mavic 2 Zoom a unique capability – it has Dolly Zoom Quickshot, for a new storytelling visual language.

Other new modes include the Circle Hyperlapse mode that can work between Free, Circle, Course Lock and Waypoint modes to capture the passing of time in a location. Plus, the coordinates of the Hyperlapse circuit can be saved so the same shot can be made again at different times, eliminating the need to re-program the circuit.

Both cameras support 4K recording, with a maximum bitrate of 100Mbit with H.265 compression codec. Both cameras can also capture video with a flat profile, making colour gradation during post-production much easier thanks to the higher amount of data in the shot.

The Mavic 2 Pro kit (which includes the drone, one battery, remote controller, charger and four propellers) is priced at USD 1,499 (~RM 6,160) while the Mavic 2 Zoom will be priced at USD 1,249 (~RM 5,338). Fly More kit is available, which includes two additional batteries, a multi-battery charging hub, battery-to-power bank adapter, extra two propellers and a bag, will cost an additional USD 319 (~RM 1,310). We will share when Malaysian availability is known.
