Crazy Rich Asians Still Big Fans Of Apple Products

Apple fans around the world got their hands on the latest products released from Cupertino today, as the iPhone Xs, Xs Max and Series 4 Watch hit the official stores. After Tim Cook announced them just a couple of weeks ago, the turnaround and delivery is astonishing as users do no longer need to wait weeks as before, reaching even to our neighbours shores.

Long queues were seen at Orchard Road, Singapore yesterday as throngs of fans who had pre-ordered waited for hours to get their phones. Given the strong fan base the iconic brand has in the city state it is no surprise to see queues year after year when a new iPhone is released, but there were some Singaporeans who took to social media to mock their obsession with everything Apple. The country is one of the earliest to have an Apple Store opening in the region despite having a population of mere 4 million, a strong endorsement from Cupertino in response to the loyalty.

After a successful route of having the first iPhone to exceed RM5000 with the premium launch of the iPhone X (ten), Apple has expanded the family with 2 new models the 5.8″ Xs and a larger 6.5″ Xs Max. Singapore is retailing them for $1649 and $1799 respectively placing them in ringgit at RM4947 and RM5397, but as you can see from the turnout at Orchard Road, the price is clearly not a deterrent.

Just like the movie, Crazy Rich Asians depicts the opulent lifestyle practiced by Singaporeans and their obsession with branded goods and their Kiasu-ness of owning things before anyone else. Ken Jeong, Awkafina’s father plays the role of an eccentric rich Singaporean who wears high-street brands from top to bottom, in what local slang terms as ‘Showing-Off’.

As long as Singaporeans walk the earth, Apple will not need to worry of sales for their next launches even if it stretches to RM10,000!
