Another 5 days left to the Huawei Mate 20 unveiling in London. We are excited to see what the phone will ultimately be, and we have been talking about the rumours surrounding this Huawei phablet.
Today we examine the rumour that Huawei may remove the 3.5mm headphone jack from the Mate 20. We already know it was removed in the P20 Pro model, so it’s the only natural way forward.
How does removing the headphone jack affect the phone?
Apple was probably the first company to nix the headphone jack on their iPhones. The iPhone 7 was the first one to go jack-less. Back then, their reasoning was that they needed the extra space to put in the larger vibration motor, known as the Taptic Engine. And it really did show. The iPhone 7 has a very strong vibration when calls come in.
Android manufacturers followed suit and phones nowadays generate very little controversy when they lack a 3.5mm headphone jack. Phones that retain the jack, are usually applauded by fans and reviewers alike. Phones like the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 still include a 3.5mm jack for audiophiles who prefer the wired life, instead of going full Bluetooth or with dongles.
What do you think of the 3.5mm headphone jack? Do you like it? Or can you live without it?
