Officials Raid Outlets In PJ Selling Illegal Android Box

It has been reported that special officers from Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission raided three different premises in Petaling Jaya and confiscated 274 Android TV boxes. These boxes are popular among techies who use it to catch all the latest movies and live telecast without paying monthly subscription fees.

Estimated to be worth RM80,000, MCMC is making a hard stand on set top boxes that do not have proper approvals as they tend to disrupt broadcast operators who charge monthly fees for sometime the same shows. Authorities also warn of potential malware risks using this IPTV boxes where you will find shops advertising and promising over 1000 channels.  Vendors in DigitalMall and Low Yat can be seen prominently advertising the availability of such devices with range between RM230 – RM780.

Buyers could be reprimanded if they are found using or subscribing to these network under the Copyright Act.
