4 more days to Day 0 of Huawei’s launch of the Huawei Mate 20 in London.

Today we would like to highlight the rumour that the Mate 20 will not only have water-resistance, they will also take it up a notch. The Mate 10 Pro had IP67 rating, and this year its very possible that the Mate 20 will feature IP68 rating.

Smartphone manufacturers lately have been featuring IP ratings for their flagship models, Samsung and Apple are the first to come to mind. What exactly do these IP ratings mean?

IP rating is the abbreviation for Ingress Protection, and the two digits that come after indicate water and dust protection depending on how high the resistance is. The first digit is for intrusion protection or dust resistance, meaning how protected it is against particulates. The second digit is for moisture protection, meaning how well the product will withstand water and moisture. This can be illustrated as follows;

IP67 – rated as “dust tight” and protection from immersion in water

IP68 – rated as “dust tight” and protection from complete submersion in water
