In a bid to see which smartphone manufacturer can fit as many cameras as possible onto a single handset, Samsung has taken the plunge and is officially leading the pack with four cameras at the back of a mid-range handset.

The Samsung Galaxy A9 is the first smartphone in the world to feature four cameras at the back, with each camera offering a different kind of photographic functionality.

According to the details by the South Korean manufacturer, the primary lens consists of an ultra-wide camera with an 8-megapixel wide-angle sensor, f/2.4 aperture, and a 120-degree field of view. It is then followed by a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, f/2.4 aperture, as well as an additional 5-megapixel depth lens with f/2.2 aperture, and Live Focus capability.

Directly below the four cameras is a flash, while a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner can be found in the middle of the smartphone.

The Galaxy A9 is seen as an upper, mid-range device; yet it appears to have some flagship-level photographic credentials. Hardware-wise, the Galaxy A9 comes with a 6.38-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, Snapdragon 660 chipset, up to 8GB of RAM, 128GB storage, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, an LTE Category 9 modem, and is powered with a 3800mAh battery.

All these specs are complemented with a dual-SIM card slot, a dedicated MicroSD slot, Bixby as well as Samsung Pay. The Galaxy A9 offers Android 8.0 Oreo, and is upgradable to Android 9.0 Pie; although, the Pie update isn’t likely to be released until 2019.

The Samsung Galaxy A9 is available in three colour options – Caviar Black, Lemonade Blue, and Bubblegum Pink.
