Cheap Android Phones Were Sending User Data to Servers in China!

Budget Android phones in the US and China turned out to have some serious spyware on them. Kryptowire discovered that more than 700 Android-powered devices had pre-installed backdoors that were sending lots of private and confidential information to servers in China.

The information would be sent every 72 hours. In would include text messages, contact lists, as well as IMEI numbers without the user even knowing. It even sent user call logs and other information about installed applications, uploading it to a server belonging to a Chinese company called Adups.

Many of the devices that were a part of this scandal were sold by Blu Products in the U.S., while others include disposable phones. Adups has admitted fault, but stated that the spyware was intended to monitor Chinese consumers only. True enough, most of the phones affected were sold there.
