With the launch of Samsung latest flagship phablet, the Galaxy Note 9 is coming our way in just a few days, speculations and leaks of the device have been appearing out of the woodwork.

The Galaxy Note series, a favourite among Samsung fans and enthusiasts, was first launched in September 2011 – designed to inspire creativity and productivity. The device was one of the first to fully embrace the large-screen trend and pen computing.

We are eagerly waiting for the Galaxy Note 9’s arrival, which is set to happen in New York, United States on 9 August 2018. So far, Samsung has briefly teased us with its official teaser video released a few days ago, which indicated that change is coming. According to the press statement, the next Galaxy Note will define what’s ‘powerful enough to keep up with you’ and that ‘a lot can change in a day’.

Other portals have reported that while the Note 9 has not changed much design-wise, aside from the position of the fingerprint scanner, which is now located below the camera as opposed to being next to it. The soon-to-be-launched device will feature a new-and-improved S-Pen and up to 1TB expandable memory via MicroSD.

While the latter is very impressive – and extremely useful for us who can’t seem to stop taking food shots – we are looking forward to the new S-Pen. It is said that its new S-Pen will feature Bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to use it as a remote trigger for your camera. Just think of all the ‘wefie’ you can achieve with this one additional feature to the already mighty pen.

However, there hasn’t been much talk about how the Bluetooth connectivity will affect the charging period of the S-Pen. According to a Reddit user, Wan997, 40 seconds of charging the S-Pen will give you about 30 minutes of use. Another interesting thing to note (no pun intended) is that Samsung will supposedly be selling a range of coloured S-Pens, allowing users to further customise their Note 9. The colour of the “ink” will also match the colour of your S-Pen, apparently.

Coming back to the all-important storage, we should clarify that the 1TB expandable memory is a combination of a 512GB internal storage plus a 512GB external MicroSD storage. We are assuming this variant will be on the Note 9’s top-end offering, with 128GB internal storage being the base model.

Touted as a “super powerful” Note, the device is rumoured to house up to 8GB of RAM, and will use either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 or Samsung Exynos 9810. According to TechWalls, the two processors are similar in terms of performance, connectivity and multimedia features. However, a leak in GeekBench indicated that the Exynos 9810 outperforms the Snapdragon 845 ever so slightly but not enough to have a significant differentiator.

For a big phablet, with a big display, battery life would be a concern for most users. Samsung indicates that the Note 9 will feature a “powerful all-day(sic) battery”. For a device such as the Note 9, a safe bet is that it will come equipped with at least 4,000mAh battery capacity.
