Evo is the world’s biggest stage for fighting game fans to gather and play for glory. Nowadays, it also doubles as a site for the latest fighting game announcements. As expected, game developers and publishers pushed out a flurry of announcements over the short weekend this year. From teasers to DLC reveals, here’s everything that was revealed at the fighting game event.

New DLC Characters Out Tomorrow for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, Next Crossover Teased
The hype from the BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle’s tournament came to a close with a trailer reveal of character packs 4-6 for the game. Hailing from the BlazBlue, Persona 4 Arena, and Under Night In-Birth franchises are nine new characters.
BlazBlue:
- Nine
- Izayoi
- Mai
Persona 4 Arena:
- Labrys
- Mitsuru
- Akihiko
Under Night In-Birth:
- Yuzuriha
- Merzava
- Mika
That wasn’t all, however. The end of the trailer also reveals that a new IP will make its way into the game. Though only a cryptic image is shown, previous datamine leaks suggest that we could be looking at the characters Asuka and Homura from the Senran Kagura series in the near future.

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle’s DLC is due out tomorrow, on 7th August 2018. The game is now available on Steam and PlayStation 4.
Terry Bogard Joins the Fighting EX Layer Roster
Apart from its annual main tournaments, Evo is also home to plenty of exciting side tournaments. After the Grand Finals for Fighting EX Layer, ARIKA came out with a pleasant surprise for King of Fighters fans.
Fan favourite Terry Bogard joins the roster, all the way from the SNK fighting game franchise. The trailer also gives us a first look at brand new characters Sharon and Area. For those who have been playing the game, you might also like the three new stages shown here.
On top of that, the game is also going up for sale on the PS Store. Now’s your chance to grab this game if you’ve been interested.
No release date was revealed for these updates, but it should be within August or September.
Fighting EX Layer is available now on PlayStation 4.
Hitomi and Lei Fang Teased for Dead or Alive 6
With Dead or Alive 6 in the horizon, a lot of hopes were on Evo 2018 for some new information. We did get that, sort of. Team NINJA gave us a brief teaser image at the end of Dead or Alive 5’s side tournament with a date, 20th August 2018.
In case you’re in the dark, the silhouettes are of Hitomi and Lei Fang, who will be returning characters in Dead or Alive 6. The reveal date is also set for the day before Gamescom 2018. Apart from new gameplay footage of Dead or Alive 6, it looks like we’ll also get to see some fresh new designs for these characters.
Gamescom 2018 takes place from 21st to 25th August 2018, at the Koelnmesse, Cologne, Germany.
Dead or Alive 6 is due out on March 2019 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
New Guilty Gear Title and Arc Revo World Tour 2019
At the conclusion of Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2’s tournament, Arc System Works CEO Minoru Kidooka came forward to announce a new Guilty Gear title.

The game is now in development, but the company states that it’s too early to show us anything yet. Still, with what the team has achieved with Dragon Ball FighterZ, it’ll be interesting to see how Guilty Gear will look and play under a new engine.
Aside from that, Arc System Works is also hosting a world tour for its various games. The new Arc Revo Tour will run from fall 2018 to fall 2019 and feature over $100,000 in cash prizes. Expect qualifiers to be held all over the world, and winners from these qualifiers will play at the final event, Arc Revo America 2019. The Arc Revo Tour titles include BlazBlue: Central Fiction, Guilty Gear Xrd: Rev 2, and BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle.
Nintendo Reveals Next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct Date
Nintendo quietly slipped a clip in before Super Smash Bros. Melee’s Grand Finals, hinting at its next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct.

We won’t have to wait for too long apparently, as this Direct happens at 10pm on 8th August 2018. Game director Masahiro Sakurai will be there to reveal exclusive new information on the game. Cross your fingers for new characters, and maybe even some amazing crossovers.
Though a link to the stream was not provided, stay tuned on Nintendo’s YouTube channel.
Super Smash. Bros Ultimate is due out on 7th December 2018 for Nintendo Switch.
Astaroth and Seong Mi-Na Joins Soul Calibur VI Roster
The upcoming Soul Calibur VI hasn’t been short of character reveals, but fans were in for a treat during Tekken 7’s Top 8 finals.
The Demonic Guard Astaroth, and naginata-wielding Seong Mi-Na are back in Soul Calibur VI. Only skilled warriors will stand a chance against Astaroth’s giant axe and overwhelming strength. Meanwhile Seong Mi-Na’s quest for the Soul Edge will pit her against powerful warriors.
Soul Calibur VI is due out on 19th October 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam.
Tekken 7 New Season Pass Teases Negan From The Walking Dead
Bandai Namco wasn’t going to end its announcements with Soul Calibur VI, though. This was a Tekken 7 finals, after all. After an exciting grand finals, producer Katsuhiro Harada took to the stage to reveal that, due to the success of its previous season pass, there will now be a brand new season pass for the game. New characters include long-time favourites Nina Williams and Lei Wulong.
But that’s not all. If you thought Noctis in Tekken 7 was one heck of a curveball, this rivals that, if not moreso. Negan, a huge antagonist from AMC’s popular zombie TV show The Walking Dead, is swinging his way into Tekken 7. With a new bounce mechanic being added to the game, looks like Tekken 7 is about to get more exciting.
Tekken 7 is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam.
Dragon Ball FighterZ Adds Cooler, Base Goku, and Base Vegeta
The Dragon Ball FighterZ rivalry between SonicFox and GO1 flared up once again for a nail-biting grand finals. As this came to a close, Arc System Works announced that, on top of base Goku and Vegeta, they are adding Cooler as a new character into the game.
The trailer makes many callbacks to Dragon Ball history that you won’t want to miss. If you don’t know who Cooler is, he is Frieza’s brother who appears as an antagonist in the 1991 movie Dragon Ball Z: Cooler’s Revenge.
Base Goku, Base Vegeta, and Cooler will be arriving this week on 9th August 2018. Dragon Ball FighterZ is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. It is also due out on 28th September 2018 for Nintendo Switch.
Capcom Reveals G and Sagat Trailers for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Characters Out Tomorrow
Wrapping up the barrage of announcements is Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. Before the Top 8 finals, producer Yoshinori Ono stepped up to show off the next in Street Fighter V’s Season 3 roster.
G is the self-proclaimed ‘President of the World’, and has the chops for it with his imitation of Abraham Lincoln. But there isn’t just a president coming forth, the solitary king from Thailand is also here.
It looks like Sagat is back with his crazy zoning shenanigans. Check out the trailer to see some of the combos he can do with his fireballs!
Whether you want to play as a president or king, G and Sagat will be available tomorrow, on 7th August 2018. Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition is available now for PlayStation 4 and Steam.
