Prime MInister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has once again listened to the rakyat and has responded resoundingly by giving the approval for the Bantuan Prihatin Elektrik Tambahan program that will see 4 million households receiving free electricity.
The past 1 month has been extremely tensed between TNB and Malaysians who were not pleased with the electricity bill the company delivered. Based on its prorated calculation the company issued, since MCO did not allow its readers to visit houses, many households were shocked to receive high amounts on their bills. Accusations were thrown at TNB for possible faulty readings, which it vehemently denied. TNB claimed that Malaysians who stayed at home used more electricity than they will normally do, this let unwitting high consumption and high bills. But the feedback was they were only heeding the governments call and obeyed, is this the punishment for complying? The people are asking the electricity board which is owned by the government to be compassionate and give more discounts or to even consider waiving the charges for the three months under MCO.
TNB retorted and insisted the calculation is accurate, refusing to budge. This prompted Energy Commission, the body which oversees TNB to take action. UMNO the dominant Malay party also asked TNB to reconsider its stance. But the biggest call for fee reduction came from Cuepecs, the civil servant employees board which asked the company to ease the peoples burden.
Under the Prihatin program, 4 million households which used 300KWJ of electricity (RM77) and below will need not pay a single cent for April, May and June 2020. For those who exceed the amount will receive RM77 rebate per month which totals to RM231. The aid is in addition to the discounts given earlier, the rebates will be channeled via the July bill.
Goes to show if Malaysians get together and be persistence, no force can stand in the way!
