I woke up today to #boycottfoodpanda on Twitter, and wondered what they had done now. With the news coming last week about the new payment schemes, it caused some Foodpanda riders to go on strike against it. That was already known, but Sayantan Das has reaffirmed that they will follow through with the new scheme, and is basically going off at Foodpanda drivers who don’t like the deal.
Das said that riders receive a base pay of RM4 per hour, and between RM3 and RM5 per order. But then he goes on to say that depending on the “batch” of drivers, they stand to earn more, and they could possibly earn RM 7000 to RM 10,000 a month. Honestly that sounds like utter bulls***, but what do I know?
This did cause a bit of turmoil with riders, and they went out to protest, as we mentioned. But then Das went on to say this;
“Most of the riders have actually adopted the new scheme; however, for the unhappy riders, they are free to stay at Foodpanda but they are also free to explore job opportunities across other players in the market,”
And this pissed a lot of people off. What kind of boss says something like that, when you messed with their wages? Is it because Foodpanda is already on the decline with GrabFood seemingly dominating the market, you choose to take it out on your riders? Malaysians and Netizens wouldn’t stay quiet about this, so they took to Twitter with the new hashtag, #boycottfoodpanda.
