Battlefield fans have done it, and just in the nick of time. Battlefield V (Battlefield 2018) releases later in 2018, but little is known about the title right now. However, players of Battlefield 1 have been hard at work to decode an easter egg hidden in the game. To everyone’s surprise, the Battlefield 1 easter egg details a reveal date for Battlefield V.

The Battlefield 1 easter egg lies in the Fort Vaux map, released in March 2017 as part of the They Shall Not Pass expansion. The map contains breakable signs, and hidden behind are flippable switches which seem to do nothing. Furthermore, eerie sounds emanate from a barricaded basement in the fort.

It turns out that breaking the signs and flipping the switches in a certain order opens up the barricaded door. Each sign signifies a letter, so the order of the flipped switches must spell out ‘isolement’. The word is French for ‘isolation’.

This doesn’t lead to much, but the people who opened this basement didn’t get this far without being astute. The water drops from a leaking drain pipe inside the room contain a secret code. With the help of Morse code, players find a URL called ea.com/neverbethesame. Going to this page reveals a date for 23rd May 2018 under the hashtag #battlefield.

So there you have it. We may see details on Battlefield V in less than two weeks. Rumours say the game will take place in World War II. If true, the game will see a sharp return to its roots, and on the heels of Battlefield 1’s World War I success.
