Baby You Light Up My World; Philips Introduces New Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip

bsnews.org

Hue lights are cool as you get to change the colour settings but how cool would it be if your hue lights changes colour depending on the background of whatever is shown on your TV screen? Now that’s interesting.

Philips is developing a new Hue lightstrip and this one is meant to be mounted to the back of your TV where it can flash and glow along with whatever’s on-screen. This new addition will be called Philips Hue Play gradient lightstrip. Long name but we’re here for it.

The Play gradient lightstrip can display different colors across different segments of the strip, whereas the old ones were limited to a single colour. That’s supposed to allow for a much more immersive effect when mounted to your TV.

But in order for these lightstrip to be able to do its thing, you will need to buy some extra gear though. It requires a Hue Bridge and the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box if you want to use it on your TV, or the Hue Bridge and the Philips Hue Sync app if you want to use it on a computer monitor. Mounting pieces are included in the box. They’re not cheap but if you want then go for it.

Signify, which makes the Hue system, has been pushing forward with lighting that integrates with entertainment for years now. The idea for this new product is to make movies, TV shows, and video games more immersive by having lighting in the room and around the screen that mirrors whatever’s happening.

I know a friend who will definitely be interested in buying something like this. Now there’s no word or official announcement if or when these new Philips lightstrip will be available in Malaysia. But if you are interested in purchasing them, the gradient lightstrip will go on sale on October 16th in the US and maybe you’ll get to buy them online.
