Malaysia experinces one of the worst cases of fatal road accidents, every seasonal holidays thousands of people tragically die on our highways. In 2017, Ministry of Transport published a total of 533, 857 road accidents occured on our roads, of which 6740 deaths were recorded.
With Hari Raya holidays coming, the authrorities are again on safety campaigns and introducng preventive measures to bring the statistics down the new Transport Minister, Mr. Anthony Loke Siew Fook went on to say the first matter he would like to look into is to come up with effective measures to reduce road accidents and fatalities for balik kampung.
With the help of technology this alarming unneccessary deaths can be prevented, Atilze an internet of things company has deveoped a smart solution called Connected Advanced Driver Assistance Systems or Connected-ADAS that can reduce road accidents in commercial vehicles by up to 82%. The technology a vision-based application actively assists and alerts drivers to detect in real-time the road conditions to avoid front collision, accidental lane changes, speed signs detection and provide pedestrian crossing warning.
Many countries in the Asia Pacific region including Singapore, Japan, Korea and China have already mandated the implementation of ADAS and have produced encouraging results. There are over 1.3 million buses and commercial vehicles including ride- and car-sharing services like Grab, SOCAR and GoCar in Malaysia. The company has even gone to the extent by conducting an assessment study to show that by adopting the system in commercial vehicles and buses can help to reduce road accidents by approximately 20% and safe the country approximately RM 1 billion every year.
Another application for the Connected ADAS is with the insurance industry, unlike in western countries where drivers have safety rating on their license based on the way their drive, this can monitor driver behaviour and accord the premiums in relation to that. Atilze is currently collaborating very closely with the insurance industry to design and develop a unified National Driver Score (NDS) that can be utilised by all general insurers in Malaysia to identify the driver behaviour through a driver safety score. The NDS can be used by the insurer to determine the right risk profile for the relevant insurance policies to be offered matching the specific driver’s profile.
There are already several insurance companies in the final stages of piloting the NDS with a couple of insurers; and launch of the new and innovative car insurance products is targeted to take place in the second half of 2018.
