The competition in the midrange market for smartphones gets tighter everyday with not one, but two new releases! ASUS Malaysia are officially launching the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M1 and the ASUS Zenfone 5. The Zenfone Max Pro will be starting from RM699 while the more premium midrange ASUS Zenfone 5 ZE620KL will go from RM1299.

The Zenfone Max Pro M1 will have three variants: the 3GB RAM +32GB storage (RM699), 4GB RAM + 64GB storage (RM849), and 6GB RAM + 64GB storage (RM999). All three models will be powered by the Snapdragon 636 chipset and have a stock Android 8.1 UI. On top of that, a huge 5000mAh battery ensure you’re able to play and watch anything and everything for hours on end. The cameras on the models do have minor differences though. The 3GB RAM variant has a 3MP + 5MP rear camera and a 8MP front facing selfie camera on it. It’s more specced up brothers meanwhile will have a 16MP + 5MP rear camera and a 16MP front camera.

On top of that, we have the more premium midranger: the ASUS ZenFone 5. It will have 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and a Snapdragon 636 underneath too. It doesn’t have the stock Android UI though, instead having the more traditional Zen UI. Camera wise, it has a 12MP dual pixel + 8MP wide angle dual rear camera for greater photographic capabilities. There’s also quite a bit of ‘AI’-based functions to it, though how broadly they’ve defined ‘AI’ remains to be seen.

There’s also a few flash sales happening on Lazada for the ZenFone Max Pro M1. The 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant will be going for only RM599 during the Lazada flash sales on the 1, 5, 12, 19 and 26 June. From July onward meanwhile, the 3GB + 32GB storage model’s RRP will drop to RM649. Alternatively, you can preorder the 4GB + 64GB variant on Lazada for RM799.
